Acerca dos "service ecosystems" (parte II)

Parte I.
"Traditionally, the majority of views on markets in the marketing literature has been grounded in neoclassical economic thought, which views markets as ‘a priori’ realities that emphasise ‘products’ as the foundational ingredients in all business activities
...
Markets viewed from a service ecosystems perspective, on the other hand, are neither seen as predetermined nor static, but as being continually ‘performed’ through the enactment of practices of systemic actors and their direct and indirect connections. In other words, this view highlights the participation of multiple actors, who interactively and interdependently exchange and integrate resources in ways that are much broader than restricted exchanges.
...
Consequently, a service ecosystems view of markets highlights that value co-creation practices are not limited to producer and consumer dyads, but that markets are continually formed and reformed through the activities of broader sets of social and economic actors. Kjellberg and Helgesson (2006, 2007) view markets as the ongoing results of three types of practices: (1) exchange practices, (2) normalizing practices, and (3) representational practices. Exchange practices are routinized activities related to economic exchanges in a market (including restricted exchange); normalizing practices are those that contribute to establishing rules or social norms related to a market; and representational practices are those that depict what a market is and how it works."

No meu campeonato as exportações do 1º trimestre correram bem!

  • as exportações de mobiliário cresceram 59 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de máquinas, aparelhos e material eléctrico cresceram 49 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de produtos farmacêuticos cresceram 45 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de vestuário e seus acessórios de malha cresceram 41 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de plásticos e suas obras cresceram 37 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de aeronave e outros aparelhos aéreos cresceram 26 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de produtos cerâmicos cresceram 16 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de borracha e suas obras cresceram 15 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de cortiça e suas obras cresceram 15 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de aparelhos de óptica e fotografia cresceram 15 milhões de euros;
  • as exportações de calçado cresceram 10 milhões de euros;

Curiosidade do dia

T-TIP, Mongo e o código (parte III)

Parte II e parte I.
"We build upon legacy not only because it’s what we know, but because we’re still profitable doing so.
.
But what happens when your connected customers outnumber your legacy customers? Well, it’s either happened or is happening.
We’ve lulled ourselves into satisfaction with incrementalism; we’ve come to a point where we need to substantially reinvent."

Reshoring - Um exemplo concreto

""We were looking for tighter quality control," says Jay Walder, the company's new CEO, who previously ran city transit systems in both New York and Hong Kong. "It's a heck of a lot easier to visit a vendor in Detroit than it is to visit a vendor in China. It actually saves us costs in doing it."
.
Detroit-made bicycles can also be made and delivered more quickly.
...
The factory is building a new version of the bike, designed by custom bike designer Ben Serotta, that attempts to address some of the problems faced by earlier designs."

"the division of actors into dichotomies such as ‘producers’ and ‘consumers,’  ‘paying’ and ‘non-paying’ customers, and ‘adopters’ and ‘non-adopters,’ is based on narrow, unidirectional, transactional, and dyadic views on value creation and delivery.
...
this perspective moves away from linear and sequential creation and flow perspectives of value toward the existence of more complex and dynamic exchange systems of actors (i.e. service ecosystems), in which value creation practices are guided by institutions (i.e. rules, norms, meanings, symbols, and similar aides to collaboration) and, more generally, institutional arrangements (i.e. interdependent sets of institutions).
...
define service ecosystems as relatively self-contained, self-adjusting systems of resource-integrating actors connected by shared institutional arrangements and mutual value creation through service exchange. According to the service ecosystems perspective, value co-creation resides in the intersections of all actors and resources that are integrated, including resources and actors that influence value co-creation indirectly. Thus, this view underlines the complex and dynamic nature of social systems, through which service is provided, resources are integrated, and value is co-created. It urges marketing scholars and practitioners to abandon the producer and consumer divide and to see all parties as resource-integrating actors with the common goal of co-creating value for themselves and others. Instead of ‘single-actor’ centricity, such as customer or company centricity, the service ecosystems perspective urges balanced centricity [Moi ici: Como não recordar "Não é armadilhar, é educar" e "Plataforma nos materiais de construção] and a more generic actor conceptualization.
The definition of service ecosystems also points to the dynamic and self-adjusting nature of these systems. ‘Each instance of resource integration, service provision, and value creation, changes the nature of the system to some degree and thus the context for the next iteration and determination of value creation’. Consequently, the dynamic and self-adjusting nature of ecosystems broadens and extends the concept of value-in-use to the notion of value-in-context. Value-in-context implies that value is not only always co-created, but also always contingent on the accessibility, evaluation, and integration of other resources and actors and thus contextually specific. Hence, value needs to be understood in the context of the social system in which it is created and evaluated."

.
Voltei a lembrar-me disto quando ontem li "Sounds Like the Return of Ron Johnson":
"Interesting to read that Land’s End – the middle of the market retailer – is now being led by CEO with upscale fashion aspirations.  She prefers New York to the Dodgeville, Wisconsin headquarters, wants to move the brand upscale and refers to some of the company’s traditional offerings as “ugly.”
...
But has the board forgotten the basics of leadership here?  As many critics have argued, the attempts to turn around Penney’s were doomed by a culture clash, the inability to bring people along and basically a lack of leadership."

Curiosidade do dia

Qual a diferença?

"China is doubling down on efforts to keep unprofitable factories afloat despite for years pledging to curb excess capacity, adding to a glut of basic materials flooding the global economy.
...
According to a Wall Street Journal analysis of Chinese public companies, Chinese government support includes billions of dollars in cash assistance, subsidized electricity and other benefits to companies. Recipients include steelmakers, coal miners, solar-panel manufacturers, and other producers of other goods including copper and chemicals."
E o que se faz com a produção de leite e de carne de porco por cá?
.
Qual a diferença?

.
A propósito deste trecho:
Why not Cooperation Analysis?"
.

"that is how most strategies emerge: Discovery trumps planning.
...
So how do we deal with the fact that discovery trumps planning?
One common reaction is to pretend that the success was planned. Of course, after a discovery we naturally try to make sense of what we see working so well. And there is nothing wrong with retrospective rationalization; we do it all the time in business school “case studies” in an effort to learn. The problem is allowing retrospective rationalization to masquerade as a well-planned strategy, ... Such a misunderstanding leads observers to think (wrongly) that great businesses result from a great plan.
.
Another bad reaction is to wax cynical, surmising that success really just comes down to luck. This conclusion denies the fact that some people are better than others at spotting the opportunities that (luckily) come along. There is much more to discovery than the flip of a coin. When plans produce unanticipated consequences, these look like failures. If you think that leadership means waiting to get lucky, you’ll conclude from such failure that your luck has run out – a self-fulfilling prophecy.
.
But there is information in those unanticipated consequences for those who know to seek it out. Scott Cook, Intuit’s founder, coaches his people to “savor surprises” – to see deviations from plan as the fountainhead of opportunity. Seen this way, the strategic plan is just step one in the discovery process. Leaders that understand this truth do not pretend to know the solution in advance. Instead, they plan to discover."

"Economists fail to get w/ GDP growth that anything that grows without an "S" curve (slowing down phase) blows up."
Depois, esta reflexão:
"So instead of merely praising firms that are doing well and excoriating those that do badly, perhaps we should look at the one true thing that all successful companies have in common—sooner or later all hit hard times. Technology changes, markets turn and consumer tastes turn fickle. When any of those things happen, you will take a hit.
.
And if you look at anybody who has achieved extraordinary success, you will find that they transcend failure.
...
So instead of trying to find that magical skill or strategy which will rocket us to the top, we’d be better off preparing ourselves for the rocky road ahead. We are sure to falter at some point—and probably often—but that never has to be the end of the story. The only way to truly fail is to stop trying; the only true disgrace is to accept defeat."

Curiosidade do dia

A propósito deste trecho:

"Experiences are more important than products now"

"In math, x represents a variable to be solved for. In business, the x we must solve for is the experience we want to give our customers.
...
“An experience occurs when a company intentionally uses services as the stage, and goods as props, to engage individual customers in a way that creates a memorable event.”
...
Experiences are more important than products now. In fact, experiences are products. They’ve also become a lively topic of consumer comment for all the world to hear. People increasingly share their experiences with companies and products in our connected economy, and we can either be active participants in creating and nurturing desired experiences or spend more and more time trying to react or make up for bad experiences. What’s more, consumer demands continue to evolve. We’re just getting started.
...
And because so few companies offer quality experiences, customers are willing to pay more for them. Any company that shows any semblance of empathy now possesses a tremendous competitive advantage.
...
The bottom line is that for most companies, customer experience is not truly a priority. They manage it instead of lead it. They scale and optimize their current practices, generally focusing on some technology fixes and doing good marketing.
...
Eighty-five percent would pay up to 25 percent more to ensure a superior customer service experience."

""WE BELIEVE THIS WILL BE AS BIG AS THE INTERNET ITSELF," SAYS CHEYER. "IT'S A REVOLUTION.""
"They had ordered pizza, from start to finish, without placing a single phone call and without doing a Google search — without any typing at all, actually. Moreover, they did it without downloading an app from Domino’s or Grubhub.
...
Powered by artificial intelligence and unprecedented volumes of data, they could become the portal through which billions of people connect to every service and business on the Internet. It’s a world in which you can order a taxi, make a restaurant reservation and buy movie tickets in one long unbroken conversation — no more typing, searching or even clicking."

A economia das transformações

"The idea of staging a transformative experience, not only as marketing but as a product to be sold, is linked to the wider rise of the “Transformation Economy” as foreseen by B. Joseph Pine II and James H. Gilmore, who have long described product innovation in consumer markets as a multi-staged “progression of economic value” from commodities to goods to services to experiences to personal transformations, where a better you becomes the product.
...
When we buy experiences, those purchase make us happier than when we buy things,” says Pine, citing a 2014 Boston Consulting Group report which reveals that of the $1.8 trillion spent on “luxuries” in 2013, nearly $1 trillion, or 55 percent, was spent on luxury experiences. “Some large part of that trillion is luxury transformations: people looking to recharge, revitalise or to improve well-being in some way,” he continues.[Moi ici: E pensar na formação como fazendo parte desta economia das transformações?]
...
Genuine transformations — though they may well drive sales of associated product — must come with a price tag of their own. “What turns something into an experience is when you charge for time,” Pine says. "An admission fee also sends a signal that this is an experience worth having.”"

Curiosidade do dia

"Ask employers which skills they’ll need most in the next five to 10 years, as the Oxford Economics research firm did, and the answers that come back do not include business acumen, analysis, or P&L management—left-brain thinking skills that computers handle well. Instead, employers’ top priorities include relationship building, teaming, co-creativity, brainstorming, cultural sensitivity, and ability to manage diverse employees—right-brain skills of social interaction. Those responses fit well with big-picture data on how Americans work today vs. how they worked in the 1970s. The biggest increases by far have been in education and health services, which have more than doubled as a percentage of total jobs; professional and business services, up about 80%; and leisure and hospitality, up about 50%. The overall trend is a giant employment increase in industries based on personal interaction. That’s why Oracle group vice president Meg Bear says, “Empathy is the critical 21st-century skill.”"

  • os requisitos para uma série de funções com base em inputs concretos;

Um texto, "Case Study: Should You Adjust Your Business Model for a Major Customer?", que sublinho aqui numa dupla função.
.
"Lumiscape’s products [Moi ici: Lâmpadas e luminárias para iluminação pública] were designed to gather all sorts of data, including humidity, motion, and seismic activity, and, most important, UVA, UVB, and ambient light so that they could save electricity by dimming when appropriate. The innovative system promised to reduce local governments’ energy consumption and maintenance costs and improve their constituent relationships."
"The year before, prompted by all this, Lumiscape’s leadership had decided to pivot from a sales model to a subscription model. Instead of selling the streetlights and leaving the cities to manage them, the company would rent them out for a monthly fee, with installation, maintenance, and monitoring software all included. Lumiscape had also piloted a program in three sites to add Wi-Fi connectivity to the lights, allowing cities to offer internet service in public spaces."

.
O tema precisamente focado em "Treating Discovery Like Execution Will Kill Innovation":
"“In the end, these projects are all business model problems.”
...
“Why aren’t they market entry problems?” he replied.
...
What causes the difference?
.
It comes down to discovery versus execution.
...
To succeed at innovation, we need to stop treating discovery like execution. They’re two different things, and we need to be good at both of them to thrive."

Marco e a co-criação de valor

Curiosidade do dia

Parte I.
.
Um texto, "Harnessing the True Potential of Internet of Things Technology", sobre o "é meter código nisso":
"Transaction to relationship
.
It used to be that, if you were in the product business, your goal was to sell the product, get the transaction done and book the revenue. In part, this was because once the product left your store or warehouse, you had very little visibility into how it was being used. That’s all changing now as IoT technologies become more affordable and available. These technologies now provide an opportunity to monitor the use of the product throughout the lifetime of the product.
...
Well, what if you offered to charge the customer based on usage of the product, rather than requiring them to make large upfront payments for the product regardless of usage patterns down the road?
.
Here’s an even more intriguing option. What if customers could use IoT technologies not just to monitor usage of the product but also to track the impact that the product has in generating value for them? What if, for example, we could track the impact of a machine on the cycle time of a manufacturing process?
...
Vendors might even take this one step further and develop insight from the data that would enable them to offer prescriptive advice for the customer. They would not just help customers anticipate certain events, but give them advice on what they should do to enhance the value of the product given these circumstances. Depending on the value created from this advice, these prescriptive services could become a significant additional source of revenue. As these business models evolve, one might even imagine that the “sale” of the product would diminish in importance relative to the revenue generated from data-driven services enabled by the product purchase. In some cases, this could help companies evolve into a trusted advisor business model.
...
IoT technologies also have the potential to help vendors evolve into platform-based business models, where the value to the customer increasingly comes from being connected to a much broader range of more diverse resources."

Ainda acerca das experiências

"As marketers continue the transition to experiential marketing, they are witnessing first-hand how a completely different approach can drive incredible engagement and ROI. In broad strokes, the transition represents six fundamental changes in how companies market:

  • New Direction. Companies are switching from marketing used to push customers toward their products and instead are using engagements that pull them.
  • Better Touchpoints. Companies have replaced marketing campaigns designed to simply reach as many people as possible (quantity) with initiatives that seek to create longer conversations and deeper recall (quality) with the “right” people.
  • Authentic Engagements. Marketers are no longer buying mere impressions and instead are investing in creating expressions.
  • Deeper Interactions. Brands are transitioning from campaigns used to grab attention to programs created to give it.
  • Real Conversations. Companies are no longer just talking to their customers—they are now focused on listening to them
  • Lifelong Relationships. Marketers are no longer trying to communicate their products’ benefits to customers, but instead are using marketing to build relationships."

.
OK! No fim acabaremos sempre mortos.

"à medida" - tão Mongo-way

Curiosidade do dia

"You ain't seen nothing yet"

"People often ask us which brands create the best experiences and which most effectively use experiential marketing.
...
The DNA of Experiences.
Habit 10. Focus on Driving TrialUse experiential marketing to create longer engagements that promote the test,  sample, or demonstration of a product or service.

(parte V).
.
"New industrial processes, such as on-demand machining and additive three-dimensional printing, may have a tremendous effect on the U.S. economy. Roughly 33 percent of the economy is fueled by manufacturing and it’s one of the arenas that has been most resistant to incursions from the technology world. Now, all of that is changing for several well-documented reasons.
.
The cost of hardware and infrastructure to support the application of technology in manufacturing has come down dramatically even as organizations are looking to improve efficiency by collecting more data on their processes and determining where there are costs to be saved.
...
[Moi ici: Interessante esta ideia] MakeTime is an online capacity utilization marketplace for machining. The company provides a way for computerized machining companies to offer their manufacturing services for customized parts during times when those machines would typically sit idle.
.
By distributing those orders across a number of different manufacturers during their down-times, MakeTime potentially provides a way for companies to do larger production runs at lower prices.
...
“The goal of this whole game is to democratize the manufacturing floor to make things faster, better, and cheaper for a generation of entrepreneurs.” To make that happen, he adds, the whole manufacturing chain will need to be digitized.
.
“It’s all going to play a part in Just in time or on-demand manufacturing,” he said. “We all rise up and we march to the hallowed ground and we bring our manufacturers home to the promised land.”[Moi ici: Míopes!

"There is a better way. Instead of sweeping away corporate culture and existing organizational design in a “big bang,” we can move incrementally, learning as we go.
...
Citing the early twentieth-century organizational psychologist Kurt Lewin, he argues that we can never understand an organization until we try to change it and thus suggests a “provoke and observe” approach:
We can never direct a living system, only disturb it and wait to see the response  … We can’t know all the forces shaping an organization we wish to change, so  all we can do is provoke the system in some way by experimenting with a force we think might have some impact, then watch to see what happens.
Avery’s “provoke and observe” approach parallels the Agile principle of “inspect and adapt.” In my interpretation of Avery’s comments, we can formulate a  hypothesis about what is valuable to the organization, deliver something based on that hypothesis, and observe the results. The feedback that results—especially if this is a new way of thinking about value—teaches us how to either adjust our hypothesis or adjust our way of bringing agility into the culture. In terms of the Lean Startup, you may see this as an example of adjusting our value hypothesis or our growth hypothesis through validated learning."

Curiosidade do dia

"Visualize positive outcomes: As Daniel Goleman argues, positivity is part and parcel of focused attention. “Pessimism narrows our focus,” he writes, “whereas positive emotions widen our attention and our receptiveness to the new and unexpected.” Organizational leaders can benefit from imagining organizational “end-states” during strategy sessions. This can be as simple as posing a variant of the question Goleman suggests— “if everything works out perfectly for our organization, what would we be doing in ten years?”—and taking time to contemplate."

Qual a alternativa?

Ainda e sempre a ARTE!!!
.
"How do gamers learn? They try things out and usually fail: lots of times. They learn from these mistakes and look for patterns. If they get stuck, they check out what others have shared, in online forums. They may ask a friend for help. Sometimes they will look for a ‘hack’, or a way around an impasse. Once they learn something, they might record it and share it, so others can learn. What they do not do is look for the rule book.
.
Artists are like gamers as they too have to fail many times as they master their craft. (Fonte)] Today, we all need to think like gamers and artists. But being an artist is not easy. Scott Berkun says that, “it’s a discovery all artists make: the most interesting and bravest work is likely the hardest to make a living from.” There are no simple recipes to become an artist."

.
Por isso, "The Case Against Reality" é uma bela viagem a esse tempo de descoberta:
"The world presented to us by our perceptions is nothing like reality. What’s more, he says, we have evolution itself to thank for this magnificent illusion, as it maximizes evolutionary fitness by driving truth to extinction.
...
The central lesson of quantum physics is clear: There are no public objects sitting out there in some preexisting space. As the physicist John Wheeler put it, “Useful as it is under ordinary circumstances to say that the world exists ‘out there’ independent of us, that view can no longer be upheld.”
...
According to evolution by natural selection, an organism that sees reality as it is will never be more fit than an organism of equal complexity that sees none of reality but is just tuned to fitness. Never.
...
Objective reality is just conscious agents, just points of view."
A propósito de "an organism that sees reality as it is will never be more fit than an organism of equal complexity that sees none of reality but is just tuned to fitness" lembrei-me disto:

"business value must be discovered"

"More to the point, it seems backwards: we should be valuing the investment based on its contribution to strategy, not just on an income projection.
...
The idea that there is a single metric that represents or can serve as a proxy for business value is also misguided; in order to have a complete picture of business value, we must consider the goals of the particular organization, the interests of at least some of its stakeholders, and a variety of indicators of value, some of which may be quantifiable and some of which may not.
...
If I am right about this, then business value is not a given, but rather something specific to the organization that must be discovered. This idea might sound familiar: it is in fact the very idea of agility. Agile software development starts from the assumption that it is impossible for the business to know exactly what its requirements are in advance of a software development project. Requirements must emerge; they must be discovered; an Agile process learns and adapts. I am simply saying that business value is also not a simple given at the outset of our adoption of Agile practices. Instead, business value must be discovered, must be learned, must be turned into a testable basis for valuing requirements."

Curiosidade do dia

É a vida!

A propósito de "Made-in-Taiwan Used to Mean PC, Now It’s 3D":
"With consumers and businesses switching to smartphones, the PC market that has long dominated Taiwan’s economy is shrinking, and companies such as Acer are struggling."
É a vida!
Lembram-se dos ratinhos do livro "Quem mexeu no meu queijo?"?
.

Ainda as redes e plataformas

"The important innovation of the modern firm was to internalize activities by bringing many discrete entities under one roof and under one system of coordination. The multi-unit business corporation replaced the small, single-unit enterprise because administrative coordination enabled greater productivity through lower (transaction) costs per task than was possible before.
.
Managers essentially carried out the functions formerly handled by price and market mechanisms.
.
The practices and procedures that were invented at the dawn of industrialism have become a standard operating system and are still taught in business schools. The existence of this managerial system is not questioned. It is the defining characteristic of the business enterprise.
...
aiming to become a platform requires a vision that extends beyond one’s firm and aims to build and sustain an ecosystem that benefits from more partners joining the network.
...
The big shift is from market transactions to network interactions. The world of business looks very different when we change the way we look at things from transaction cost economics to network effect economics."
Trechos retirados de "One Theory to Rule them All"

Orquestradores de redes

"Our insights are based on the simple premise that different business models, based on different types of assets and technologies, create different economic outcomes. We identified four business models, each with its own value proposition:
-Asset builders deliver value through the use of physical goods (physical capital). These companies make, market, distribute, sell and lease physical things.
-Service providers deliver value through skilled people (human capital). These companies hire and develop workers who provide services to customers for which they charge.
-Technology creators deliver value through ideas (intellectual capital). These companies develop and sell intellectual property, such as software, analytics, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
-Network orchestrators deliver value through relationships (network capital). These companies create a platform that participants use to interact or transact with the many other members of the network. They may sell products, build relationships, share advice, give reviews, collaborate and more.
...
By leveraging technology and the network effect, network orchestrators outperformed the rest. Network orchestrators, on average, grew revenues faster, generated higher profit margins, and used assets more efficiently than companies using the other three business models. These advantages resulted in remarkably higher enterprise values when compared with revenues.
...
Networked business models unlock greater growth, revenue, profit, and value, but achieving them requires existing leaders to adapt not only what they do, but also how they think, in order to adapt their people, processes, products and technologies to the network world. Shifting away from your deeply ingrained industry and organizational mental models is a very difficult and important issue that this column will explore. We will address not just the why, better value, growth and profits, but also what to do and how to get started."

Ecossistemas dentro de um cliente

Descobri este interessante livro, "The Art of Business Value", de Mark Schwartz.
.
Este trecho:
Sobretudo aquele:
"They might have smaller, more “local” priorities than the big-picture transformation that management has in mind."
"being mindful that different stakeholders within an ecosystem may be endowed with different levels of capabilities and resources"
E no penúltimo sobre o mesmo tema:
"Given the degree of diversity that exists among stakeholder requirements, capabilities, and resources, vendors should go beyond the buying center to assess customer needs and constantly incorporate these variable stakeholder capabilities in order to best align with an ecosystem.""

Curiosidade do dia

"what your pricing strategy says about your offerings.
.
I believe that pricing is a part of positioning and branding that is often overlooked. How you think about pricing may depend on whether or not you’re introducing a new product or service or just rethinking how an existing product or service is brought to market.
...
Penetration pricing
...
Premium pricing
...
Economy pricing
...
Bundled pricing
...
Bracket pricing
...
As you can see, there’s a lot more to the underlying messages that comes from how you set your prices."

Sentido de urgência (parte II)

Parte I.
"What are some basic rules you’ve learned along the way?
First, you have to deliver results. You have to do what you say you are going to do to build credibility within your organization, with your customers, and with your partners. Second, you need the right people in the right jobs at the right time with the right attitude. That sounds easy, but it’s very hard. At eBay, someone who was perfect when it was a $40 million company was not quite so perfect when it grew to $4 billion. And attitude makes a huge difference: You want enthusiasm, can do, glass half full. It’s taken me a couple of years to get the team dynamic right at Hewlett-Packard.
...
What do you think a CEO really needs to focus on?
First, you need the right strategy. Less than perfect execution against the right strategy will probably work. A 100% execution against the wrong strategy won’t. The next thing is getting the right people.[Moi ici: Olha, vou usar este trecho em futuros projectos. And at scale, you have no choice but to instrument the business. It was different at eBay. I was the 30th employee, and by the end I had an instinct—I could almost feel what was wrong with the business. I could have a couple of conversations, look at some high-level numbers, and I’d know. But at HP you have to have a plan, and you have to measure that plan. You don’t get what you expect; you get what you inspect. At scale, you can’t just feel it; you have to have the metrics. We monitor everything, so the minute something goes off track, we know.
.
How can you increase the odds that you’re on the right strategic path?
I learned how to do strategy for nine years at Bain, and it has stood me in good stead, because there’s a formula for it. It’s all about who your customers are, who your competitors are, what cost structure you need, and what things you are not going to do. That is the most difficult decision for companies, because we all have eyes that are bigger than our stomachs."[Moi ici: Foco, foco, foco

"More than half of millennials believe they will start their own business, and the majority of them believe that businesses must be driven by more than profit — seventy-seven percent of Millennials chose their place of work based on their employers’ purpose. Given a choice, this generation does not want to work at the corporations created by their forebears. This, of course, is an existential threat to the world’s great corporations."
